Make our court system more citizen oriented and business friendly.
- Implement text notification of hearings.
- Rewrite small claims petitions and make format electronic for ease of use for citizens.
- Work with district and circuit judges to implement innovative options for alternative court attendance for employees to avoid missing work for necessary court appearances. (Such as night courts, virtual courts, virtual mediation, etc)
- Create an optional template website for all state courts so that citizens have access to basic information about how the court works. This will help remove the cloak of mystery and reduce anxiety about court appearances.
Implement new tools to fight human trafficking and reduce domestic violence.
- Create Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Web Portals
- Work with judges and attorneys to create standing walk-in human trafficking and domestic violence court sessions.
- Ensure all courtrooms have adequate ability to separate victims from alleged offenders.
- Provide judges with better tools for access to NCIC and ACIC data in real time for making bail, no contact, custody, and orders of protection decisions.
Continue my juvenile justice reform efforts to reduce juvenile crime and recidivism.
- Continue my 10-year effort on juvenile Justice reform to focus on gang reduction.
- Work with our juvenile courts to increase resources to provide more skill training for court-involved youth including basic adult necessary skills such as financial management, landlord tenant rules, and health care options.
Ensure all Arkansans have access to fair and impartial courts.
- Create task force to review all current District Court and Circuit Court Rules of Civil Procedure to make recommendations to the Supreme Court on how to streamline rules to eliminate procedural hurdles to court access and make rules be in ordinary, plain language.
- Work with both law schools to further rural law practice outreach and work with appellate courts to commit to referring a percentage of appellate appointments to rural practice attorneys.
Update our court rules to speed up criminal trials while protecting constitutional rights.
- Create a Task Force made up of Judges, Prosecutors, and Defense Counsel to redraft our Speedy Trial Rule into a meaningful rule that ensures constitutional protections in an understandable and workable format.
